Summon: How did the band get started?
Frank: I left metal music around 22 years ago and quit my band and started writings music for movies and jingles for the last 10 years as a score composer but also directed a few movies. Lately I’ve met back my old schoolmate Luc Lemay from Gorguts and did a few graphics for him on Colored sands album and t-shirts etc… He gave me back interest into metal music. A while after I discovered Devin Towsend artist and his huge discography and been totally hooked up by Dark Matters album which gave me the final kick in the ass. I’ve started writing my debut album “Frank X & The project: Earth” a few weeks later which has been released on November 2015.
Summon: What kind of music do you play?
Frank: Well, there’s so many tags for modern metal music. Some reviews described as Thrash, Doom, progressive metal. I think that’s pretty much it.
Summon: How has the band response been?
Frank: Very positive and even from people not into this genre gave some very good comments. Actually I was quite surprised of such a reaction, I mean I didn’t expect that much enthusiasm from the listeners.
Summon: Where did the band name come from?
Frank: When I was at school studying score composing and sounds design, I worked on a musical instrumental project I named Frank X which was a kind of electro/prog rock album featuring 5 tracks I wrote. When I’ve decided to write a metal album as a soloist, this name naturally came back to my mind.
Summon: Introduce the band members
Frank: Me, Myself and I. Ah Ah. Being alone for doing everything is quite exhausting but sometime much easier for some other matters like concept or musical directions. I guess it’s not better or worse then with many members as bands I ever played in before but a very much different approach for sure.
Summon: And where do the lyric ideas come from?
Frank: The project: Earth is a concept album which is an epic parody of the origin of mankind. The main characters are God, Lucifer, Satan, Adam and Eve etc… It unfolds from track to track revealing Lucifer’s conspiration to outwit God who’s definitely too busy by being omniscient to pay too much attention on what Lucifer’s doing on planet earth. It’s a very much twisted version of the bible punctuated with well know events as Adam and Eve arrival, The Flood, Babylon, Jesus crucifixion etc… All this wrapped up with some funny dialogs and heavily colored with humor.
Summon: How many albums/CD’s have you released?
Frank: This is my very first album, I made many demos in my early beginning though. I should start working on the 2nd album on next summer 2016.
Summon: Tell me about some of the songs on the latest CD?
Frank: “The Nephilims” and “The Doom” are definitely the favorites of most of the listeners. “The Nephilims” is talking about Lucifer’s plan to change apes into much stronger and smarter specy. He used of the Nephilims extreme libido to procreate mighty men out of dumb apes populating the earth at that very primitive epoch. That relates the events of the apocryph “book of Enoch” which is actually one of the oldest manuscript existing but turned in a very derisive manner. “The Doom” is the last track of the album where Lucifer spreads chaos, war and corruption all over the world sealing the final chapter of his work before God to finally discover he’s been fooled since the beginning.
Summon: Do you have any side projects?
Frank: I have my own studio at home “Utopix Studios” and always working on some other things like video editing or graphics here and there. Currently working on a corporative video for a clothing chain store.
Summon: Who are some of your musical influences?
Frank: Definitely Devin Townsend, which is my biggest inspiration for the album.
Summon: Which current bands?
Frank: Zierler, Beyond Twilight, Alice in Chains…
Summon: What is the scene like over in your country?
Frank: I’m in Canada close to Montreal, So the well known “Heavy Montreal” is definitely a good sign of how well the metal scene is around here. Plenty of bands from everywhere used to come here. I think Montreal has a very good and well known metal reputation internationally.
